Management Team

Scott Cramer
President and Chief Executive Officer
Scott has over 20 years experience in general management, sales and sales management with medical device companies. Prior to joining Novasys, he served as President and CEO of Bacchus Vascular, Inc., a company dedicated to the treatment of peripheral vascular disease, where he successfully negotiated the acquisition of the company by Covidien plc in March 2009.

Previously, Scott was the Senior Vice President of U.S. Sales and Account Services for VNUS Medical Technologies, which was also acquired by Covidien plc. Scott joined VNUS in 2000 as the Vice President of North American Sales.

From 1997 through 2000, Scott led the sales function as Vice President U.S. Sales at EndoSonics Corporation, a cardiovascular device company which later became Volcano Corporation. From 1996 to 1997, he served as a Regional Manager and then as National Sales Manager at Cardiometrics, Inc., a medical device company which was acquired by Endosonics Corporation. From 1990 to 1995, Scott held several positions at Baxter Healthcare Corporation’s cardiovascular division.

Scott currently serves on the Board of Directors of Novasys Medical and previously served on the Board of Directors of Bacchus Vascular. He holds a B.S. degree in Finance from the Philadelphia University.


Michael Gandy

Chief Financial Officer
Mike has over 20 years of experience in the medical device industry. He most recently served as the Chief Financial Officer of Baxano, Inc., an orthopedic company with an innovative solution to lower lumbar stenosis, where he secured a $30M financing with an outside lead. Prior to Baxano, Mike was CFO at Bacchus Vascular, a company focused on the treatment of Deep Vein Thrombosis, which was acquired by Covidien in early 2009. Prior to Bacchus, Mike served as the Controller at Lipid Sciences, a closely held public company, and was also with Kerberos Proximal Solutions leading up to its acquisition by Foxhollow Corporation. Mike was the Chief Financial Officer of Solarant Medical for eight years, where he was a member of the company’s founding management team. Mike began his career in medical devices with Guidant (formerly Advanced Cardiovascular Systems) where for nearly 10 years he held various management positions in Operations, Marketing, and Finance. Mike holds a B.S. in Finance from California State University, Long Beach, and earned his M.B.A. from California State University, Fullerton.


Damian P. “Pat” Alagia III, M.D.

Medical Director and Vice President of Medical Affairs
Dr. Alagia is a Board Certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist and a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. In addition to his extensive clinical experience in practice building and medical devices, Dr. Alagia was the founding program director for the Minimally Invasive Surgery program at the George Washington University Hospital. During his time in clinical and academic practice Dr. Alagia worked closely as a subject matter expert with Ethicon Women’s Health and Urology, contributing significantly to the professional education program for gynecologic surgeons interested in developing skills using minimally invasive surgical instruments for hospital, ASC and office based use. Prior to joining Novasys Dr. Alagia was the President of Safe Sedation, an anesthesia service provider to non-hospital based ambulatory surgical centers and physician offices where he was responsible for business development and physician – corporate relations.

Dr. Alagia received his undergraduate degree in biology and genetics from Georgetown University and his Medical Degree from the same institution. After completing three years of general surgical residency at the University of Louisville he then transferred his surgical training to Georgetown University where he completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology. After completing an MBA in finance from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Alagia has engaged in both entrepreneurial and political activities focused on empowering physicians and their practices in an ever changing healthcare environment.


Simon Thomas

Vice President of R&D, RA/QA and Operations
Simon has over 22 years broad-based experience in biomedical product development and manufacturing (both single-use probes/sensors/catheters and capital equipment) with Tyco Healthcare (Nellcor), GE/Marquette (Corometrics), Novametrix Medical Systems and Physiological Instrumentation (a UK-based start-up). In addition to product development, Simon has extensive experience including clinical studies/biostatistics, regulatory strategy/submissions, intellectual property and manufacturing engineering. Prior to joining Novasys Medical in 2001, he led Nellcor’s technical, clinical and regulatory functions in obtaining PMA approval of a breakthrough OB/GYN product. Simon’s experience ranges from being the first R&D employee at a start-up to holding the position of Vice President of Engineering at Corometrics, leading a department of 55. Simon obtained his Bachelor of Science with Honors in Physics from Imperial College of Science and Technology in London.


Lauri Campbell

Vice President of Marketing
Lauri joined Novasys Medical with 17 years experience in medical device marketing and sales management in both Fortune 100 and small venture-backed start-up companies. Most recently, she was an independent marketing consultant assisting small companies in launching new products in the sleep disorders, gastroenterology and cardiology markets. Prior to that, Lauri held marketing management positions at Neoforma, a publicly held Internet start-up serving the health care market. Lauri spent three years with Johnson & Johnson’s orthopaedics business unit, serving as Area Manager and Territory General Manager and successfully integrating the J&J and DePuy sales organizations in Northern California after J&J’s acquisition of DePuy. Previously, Lauri held a variety of marketing and product management positions at Abbott Laboratories and Nellcor, where she led the worldwide marketing activities for an $80 million disposable and reusable sensor product line. Lauri has served on the Board of Directors of the Professional Women’s Healthcare Alliance, a non-profit networking organization serving women in the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industry, and she was recently named to the Board of Directors as Industry Council Chair for the National Association for Continence, the nation’s largest patient advocacy organization for people suffering from incontinence. Lauri holds a B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles, and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.


Eric Heil

Vice President of Sales
Eric has over 21 years of sales and sales management experience in the healthcare and medical device arena. Prior to joining Novasys Medical, Eric was with Covidien where held the position of Vice President of Sales – Vascular Intervention. Eric joined Covidien through the acquisition of Bacchus Vascular in 2009 in which he held the position of Vice President of Sales. Eric was also responsible for the successful integration of both vascular sales teams for Covidien and Bacchus Vascular. Prior to joining Bacchus, Eric was the Vice President of Sales and Development for Partners Imaging. Previously, he served as Vice President of Sales for Chase Medical where he was responsible for global sales for the organization. Mr. Heil also held sales management positions with VNUS Medical Technologies and Endosonics/Cardiometrics Inc., and began his medical career in sales with DeRoyal Cardiovascular and The Upjohn Company. Eric holds a B.A. degree from The University of North Texas.


Jim Fries

Vice President of External and Government Relations
Jim has over 15 years experience in medical device and diagnostic external affairs, including payer relations, thought leader development, strategic planning, as well as government and medical society lobbying. Prior to joining Novasys, he served as Vice President of External Affairs at LipoScience, a company dedicated to nuclear magnetic resonance diagnostics in the assessment and management of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. While at LipoScience Jim also held positions in Scientific Development and Payer Relations and was a member of the leadership team responsible for multiple reimbursement successes and key Center of Excellence agreements with institutions such as the Mayo Clinic. Previously, Jim was the Director of Managed Care at VNUS Medical Technologies, and has held positions in Payer Relations at Oratec Interventions and Orthologic.

Jim has previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Healthcare Marketing Association, and was an adjunct Professor at Eastern University, where he earned a B.A. in Organizational Management and a Masters in Business Administration.
